A verdict is still on the way in a medical malpractice case against an orthopedic surgeon who failed to notice a blood clot in the leg of a sophomore from Manchester High School who died of a pulmonary embolism. Leamon Williams is the orthopedic surgeon being sued in this medical malpractice case for not discovering a blood clot in the victim’s leg. He noticed swelling in her leg but did not ask for any tests to rule out possible clotting of blood.
Three days after the visit to Doctor Williams’ office the student, Heather Medley, died from a massive pulmonary embolism from a blood clot. The clot probably broke away from the legs. Medley was under the care of the orthopedic surgeon after she had arthroscopic knee surgery in early April of 2004.
