Jury to begin Deliberations in Six-Week Medical Malpractice Trial

The jury of a medical malpractice case that was in trial for six weeks is set to begin deliberations regarding the outcome of the case. Stacy Thompson, the plaintiff in the case, sued her doctors in 2002 claiming that they had negligently failed to diagnose her alleged breast cancer in a timely manner. Thompson was experiencing a bloody nipple discharge since 1997 but was not correctly diagnosed until 2001. Thompson sought treatment from Dr. James Woodruff in 1997 and he failed to recognize any signs of breast cancer.

Thompson had to have a back muscle removed to repair her breast after she had part of her breast removed during surgery. Thompson claims she can no longer work and is suing the defendants for past and future lost wages, mental anguish, and disfigurement. Thompson’s husband, a plaintiff in the suit, is also suing for loss of consortium and household services.
